CVHPC Public Meeting Minutes

Discussion was held on How Can We Help You? How Can You Help Us?
The new facility, Journey to Recovery, is scheduled to open by the end of May 2019. They have raised $6 million, and need more funds. Eric is working on obtaining more funds o get detox facility open. It is a 72-bed facility: 30 men, 30 women, and 12 detox beds. Moms can take their children with them. ADAC currently has a waiting list.
ADAAC is here to help Call 800-880-9641 for the crisis line. A live person will answer, then a counselor will call the person back.
Jill Donegan with Tom Green County Library
Jill spoke about the homeless spending their days at the library, especially in inclement weather. They have policies but they try to offer a hospitable, safe environment.
Timothy Herbst-Davenport, Club House Board member
The Club House is located at 404 Irving Street. You do not have to be an MHMR patient or client to be a member. Amy Mizzell-Flint is the director. For more information, call Tim at St. Paul Presbyterian Church at 325-653-5691 or The Club House.
Public Housing Authority
Family Fun Day is scheduled for 6/8/19 from 11-2 at PHA. It is located at 420 E. 28th Street, San Angelo, Texas.
Children’s Advocacy Center
Picnic in the Park at Kirby Park on 4/14/19 from 1-6 p.m. Be prepared to have pamphlets and snacks available for distribution. This is a very family-oriented day.
First United Methodist Church
First United Methodist Church is offering a traveling shower service next month for those in need. Contact FUMC office for more information.
Christian Job Corps
CJC offers drinks, simple lunch to those who are hungry at the Star Stop on Main Street, mostly on weekends.
United Way Day of Caring
They are putting together some baskets for needy Veterans. You can go to the United Way website for drop off locations. Drive for donations is until May 10th. Volunteers are needed. Call United Way to help put baskets together…sign up first. This will be done on 5/17/19 at Concho Valley Food Bank.
- $755,000.00 was allocated into our community for non-profits.
Nabors Café at Rust Street Ministries started serving last Monday. This was possible from a grant from an anonymous donor. Food is served at lunch and a bag of food is sent with the person.
ADAAC is having a Spring Luncheon at Bentwood Country Club on 4/25/19 at 11:30 a.m. Speaker is Chris Raymer. Funds will go towards Journey to Recovery program/facility. Contact Paulette Schell at ADAC.
On 4/27/19 is the President’s drug take back. You can take unused over the counter or prescription drugs to ADAC at 3553 W. Houston Harte. No syringes, glass bottles nor inhalers. San Angelo Police Dept. also has an ongoing drop off at the police station.
Open Arms will have a Community Resource Fair at 113 N. Harrison Street, San Angelo, Texas on 4/11/19 form 10-3. They are also hosting an Empowering Survivor and Men Engagement Conference on 04/16/2019 with a guest speaker. Contact Open Arms at 325-655-2000 for more information.
San Angelo Gives
San Angelo Gives is set for May 7, 2019. You can go to their website, the Galilee Development Center and type in Homeless Coalition in the notes to designate your donation to non-profit.
St. Paul Presbyterian Church
St. Paul Presbyterian Church will have a summer food distribution on July 27, 2019. More information to be announced soon. This event will target families with children in school. It is geared for children who are at home after school or during the day as well as the homeless.
