Texas Homeless Network’s CoC Manager, Mary Rychlik, LMSW, and Jen Beardsley, THN’s Coordination & Engagement VISTA volunteer shared a lot of very interesting information about our 2018 Point in Time Count at the December 2018 homeless coalition meeting. They also provided excellent guidance on how agencies can use the data to make better-informed decisions about homeless issues in the Concho Valley.
On January 24, 2019, the homeless coalition will be conducting another point in time count of people who are experiencing an episode of homelessness. The count will include both sheltered and unsheltered homeless people. In 2018, San Angelo had 165 homeless people of which 50 were unsheltered and 115 were sheltered. We still have a lot of work to do.
Increasing the amount of federal and state funding we can bring into San Angelo is dependent on several things, two of which are the number of homeless people in San Angelo and our overall performance in preventing homelessness through programs such a Rapid Re-Housing.
2019 PIT Count in San Angelo
The Point In Time (PIT) survey is our primary tool for counting the number of people who are experiencing homelessness, whether they are sheltered or unsheltered, in San Angelo. The PIT requires a huge effort and many volunteers on the day of the survey. If you would like to help count the homeless who are unsheltered on January 24, 2019, please contact Bob Salas via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
